Who is He and Does He want to Heal?

21/7/2024

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle [Texts: Mark 6:30-34, 53-56; 2 Samuel 7:1-14a]
The underlying question in this section is: "Who is Jesus?"  We look at the significance of his compassion for the people as a shepherd for the sheep and the Old Testament view of this.  The text continues with his healing all who came to him.  We don't have to ask if it is God's will to heal - Jesus shows us what is the default position.

Palm Sunday: Who is this Man?

2/4/2023

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle  [Matthew 21:1-17; Psalm 118: 1-2, 19-29]

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds asked, "Who is this man?"  It is a good question.  Through three years of ministry, Jesus had walked everywhere but now he rode a donkey.  Why?  Some peoplel say that Jesus never said he was God.  While he did not say those words, his actions and claims imply it all the time.  In that triumphal entry it was clear that here was a prophet, a priest and a king who could only be God!  What is your response?  He calls us to follow him.

Changed from Glory to Glory

8/3/2020

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle  [Text: Matthew 17:1-9]
The strength of the Apostles' witness to the Transfiguration challenges us to take seriously this revelation of the nature of Jesus of Nazareth.  Do we try to domesticate Jesus to be a good teacher or an amazing prophet?  Peter headed in that direction and was corrected by a voice from heaven!  Yet even as we accept him for who he says he is, we find that he will change us from glory to glory into his likeness.

Is your King big enough?

29/11/2019

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle [Texts: Jeremiah 23:1-6; Colossians 1:11-20 ; Luke 23:33-43]
Christ the King Sunday - the end of the Church year.  Jesus is King.  Jeremiah looked forward to him; at the Cross it is proclaimed as Jesus triumphed over evil; Paul looks behind the scenes to tell us the wonder of who he is.

Christ is King

23/11/2014

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle [Texts: Ezekiel 34:11-24; Ephesians 1:15-23a ; Matthew 25:31-46]
Our texts speak of Christ being King - but more than a national king.  I wonder if we have a large enough concept of the majestic sovereignty of Jesus or of the position the Church has in Him?

Who is this Man?
