The Jewish Passover originated with the enslaved Hebrews in Egypt, who were instructed to sacrifice a lamb to protect them from the tenth plague of Egypt. The Passover became a commemoration of that mighty act of God and of their freedom from slavery.
The Last Supper was when Jesus met with his disciples to eat the Passover and instituted Holy Communion that we would him and his salvation. In that meal he announced that God had made a new Covenant in his blood. The Apostles understood that Jesus was the true Passover Lamb who died to redeem mankind.
