Stewardship 3: Giving and God's Generosity

Preacher: Ian Hardcastle [Texts: Malachi 3:6-12; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15; Luke 6:36-38]
Through the Old Testament, Paul's letters and from Jesus himself, there is the promise of generosity from God as we return a proportion of what he has given to us, he will bountifully provide for us. This week, we will pray about what he is calling us each to give in service and money and trust him for the outworking of that.

As we continue our series on Stewardship, Ian compares Jesus' different dealings with Zacchaeus and the Rich Young Ruler. The words from Deuteronomy and Paul's letter to Timothy warn us be grateful to God as the ultimate provider and not to let the love of money lead us astray.
We are left with three questions:

Has conversion reached your wallet?
Do you regard your possessions as belonging to God but held by you as his steward?
Do you trust God as your provider and give him thanks?

It is time! It is time to look at our giving again. For our own spiritual health we need to be generous. Furthermore, when we voted for the budget we agreed we would have to increase giving to fund it. So we are starting a three-week series on "Giving", starting with "7 Principles of Giving."

Words have power - the servant girl told her mistress about a prophet in Israel and as a consequence her master got healed. Jesus sent his disciples out to preach and heal. We have the opportunity to tell people about what God has done in our lives - and the Holy Spirit may use your words to change someone's life.
