Autumn 2015
This autumn sees a few changes for the jam making. I have discovered that if I freeze plums, when they are thawed in a microwave oven, the skins come off REALLY easily - and this is such good news for someone who procrastinates about making damson jam because of having to sieve skins and stones to separate them from the flesh.
So Damson Cheese and Damson Jam are coming in bulk! I call the jam "Queen of Jams" because it has such an appealing tart-yet-sweet flavour. I am plotting and scheming as to how to persuade people that Quince Jelly is just what they need. It is such an easy thing to make, but not many people know how to use it. Quince paste seems to be more recognisable, perhaps, because it goes first.
Feijoa and Ginger and Vanilla Jam is also just around the corner. Maybe in the week after Easter there will be time to make it.
One of our home groups has caught the vision for helping Bishop Given provide funds for clergy children to go to school. Hurrah! Here is one little sweetie whose brothers and sisters need that funding. The mama is a clergy wife who is a bit lonely as there are very few Christians in her village. I would like to send her some sewing gear so she can start up a sewing club for the M u s lim women of their village. Then maybe she can make some friends - and who knows what might happen?
